NLRB Finds That Student Assistants Are Employees

In a 3-1 decision, the NLRB overruled its prior decision in a case involving Brown University, and held that student assistants at Columbia University, who perform work at the direction of the university for which they are compensated, are employees under the National Labor Relations Act, entitled to the Act’s protections.  Columbia University, 364 NLRB No. 90 (Aug. 23, 2016)
